Can One Degree Make A Difference?
Hey Friends,
This morning I read a great little booklet called, 212° The Extra Degree. It is a challenging and encouraging booklet to motivate us to continue our effort and not to quit. It is not a Christian book. I have found some of the most challenging and creative books are from secular authors. Strange that the worshippers of the creative and creator God don’t use it – creativity, that is. Just a pet peeve of mine – sorry to digress.
The axiom, or thought, of the booklet is that there is only one degree between 211° and 212°, but that one degree makes a lot of difference. At 211° you have hot water and at 212° you have steam, and steam can empower a locomotive. Steam can give the power to do what you need done. We are talking about one degree of difference. Most of us can turn up the heat one degree, can’t we?!?! Keep in mind that 211° is hot water and 212° is boiling!
“Raising the temperature of water by one extra degree means the difference between something that is simply very hot and something that generates enough force to power a machine – a beautiful, uncomplicated metaphor that ideally should feed our every endeavor – consistently pushing us to make the extra effort in every task we undertake. 212 serves as a forceful drill sergeant with its motivating and focused message while adhering to a scientific law – a natural law. It reminds us that seemingly small things can make a tremendous difference.”
Remember, some of us have no one who really challenges us and I want to encourage you in the race. Discouragement can descend on any of us. Some of us are running this race “sort of alone” and that is not the way God developed and designed this to work out. Remember Jesus and 2 x 2?
I wonder, can you add one degree? Can you add a little extra effort? As I read my Bible, I see that Jesus never let up for us - even all the way to the cross.
Just a thought,
Chris

I can do it!! What a great blog today, thanks as always PC, you rock!! God Bless!
Hi ya’ll!! I have kept silent for awhile because of personal paralyizing circumstances. BUT. Pastor Chris is enlightened in that we must not go it alone. There is a wealth of heavenly treasures in the body. Christ’s Body.
My husband has left us and says he’s coming back when he gets his head straight. It has devestated me and brought up many wounds from the past and I confess before God and all of you who read this blog I lost my True North for awhile.
I have tried everyway I know to make him understand the folly of this endeavor and that he is gambling with a beautiful union to no avail. Done everything but really lean on the Lord and my true family. His Body of true believers.
I think that our challenges in life should produce a reliance on the eternal…what has eternal life not the inheritance of eternal death. Whatever can be shaken has it’s place there…hell. But He who lives in us is greater than he who puts his trust in this temporal world. We do need encouragement. And Godly council is the only thing that can sustain us.
My circumstance is HARD but not to hard for those who know how to fight the true spiritual battle and I ask for those intercessors and for those who have the heart of our Jesus beating in them to come up alongside my family in prayer to call on God to reveal His Glory in a lost and dieing world. We do not have to succumb to fear and shame and humiliation nor give in to despair. It has taken me a while to stand back up but I will not stay down no matter what the circumstance looks like or the lies of the enemy that whisper to my deepest fears.
I have a family who knows what true Love looks like and His face is Jesus For truly is He not the HEART OF GOD.?
I have purchased several books for encouragement…one is what Pastor mentioned this weekend “THE FORGOTTEN GOD” also “The Bait Of Satan” by John Bevere. Another one is “Crazy Love” by the same author as the Forgotten God By Francis Chan. I do need encouragement from all ends. But mostly to reconnect to my only source of life the God of Abraham Jacob And Isaac, the GREAT I AM, the Trinity….Father,Son AND Holy Spirit and I know He will not leave me or forsake me.
And all the body say AMEN with me I ask. I believe that is the one degree Pastor. Amen…let it be so.
Great post Chris. I think you’re right on the mark!
Sabrina,
I’m Praying for you. It must be very hard to go through what you have. Stay the course…we have your back. Jeremiah 29:11
Thank you Lee.
