Pour It Out!
Hey Friends,
Let’s dig a little deeper on the topic of sacrifice because it has been somewhat forgotten by Christ-followers, and yet not by Christ. The Apostle Paul said his life was being poured out as a drink offering. What in the world is a drink offering? Great question! In the Old Testament people would mix liquids and bring them to the priest to be “poured out to the Lord.”
King David was in a battle and wanted a drink from the well in Bethlehem. One problem was that the well was behind enemy lines. A few of his men broke through the line and got some water from the well for him. When they returned, he said he could not drink the water. The water was precious because the men had risked their lives. So he poured it out on the ground. (If I had been one of his men who retrieved the water, I would not have been a happy camper!) Those men were not mad because David gave the water to God - a drink offering.
We are to live our lives as drink offerings – being poured out for the Lord in His service. Are you a drink offering? Are you being poured out every day for the Lord? “Well,” you think, ”you pastors are, but we have to work REAL jobs!” We can all be poured out for the Lord. It is how you live your life not where you work! Are you living for Jesus or yourself? Are His priorities yours? Do the things that matter most to Him matter most to you?
Are you being poured out daily in service, worship, and witness for Jesus? Just a question. Remember since we don’t sacrifice animals today, we become the sacrifice. God did for us with His Son on the cross what He would never ask us to do. Love gives.
Just a thought.

Pastor,
The daily devotion today was great thank you for taking the time to post it every morning.
Interesting blog today, Sacrifice …pouring myself out like a drink offering…but no one went behind enemy lines for me. or did they?! wait!
So He has given(risked) His life for me…and now I pour myself out…because He has added value to me(he has made my water special).
A couple questions…
- Does he want me to sacrifice or pour out something that cost so much for Him to get?
- Is that all He wants…for me to pour out this “special” water so that I am pleasing to God?
Thank you for the preciousness of these words in your blog today Pastor. My thoughts have drifted this week to the Columbine girl, Stephen, the missionaries of “The End of the Spear”, and recently I read of Christians that were crucufied (CBN Worldnews).
A few years ago at the Christian Business Ascociations trade show they had erected a display that told of the martyers and people came and read and left white roses. They were beautiful examlpes of Love for our Lord. There may come a day that some of us might find ourselves in the very same situation. Will we be rooted in that same Love, that propelled their choice?
Our problems are in some cases big, but in the big picture are they really?
Will we find ourselves home, under the throne crying out to God?
If I Love, would I not gladly, give my life for Him or those that belong to His body?.
Psalms 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and contite heart, O God, though wilt not despise.
1 peter 5:9-11 Whom resist (adversary the devil) stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all GRACE, who hath called us into His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that you have suffered awhile, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. AMEN. (emphasis added)
How arrogant or distracted are we; who forget that these things are STILL going on in the world, to fellow members of Christ. Dissention, distraction, lack of sacrificial living, and lack of faith in Jesus, who called us, will not produce this kind of resolve if the enemy comes after you.
Only Love, Faith, Hope, Trust, and a “kingdom mindset” (as Clay spoke of) will produce enough strength to cause a high school girl to stand up and face down an assault rifle because she refused to deny Christ before men.
