When Does Potential Become a Dirty Word?
Hey Friends,
We love potential and we hear the word all the time. “He or she has great potential” is meant to be a compliment. When does the word become ugly and no longer a compliment? It is when we don’t reach it or we miss our opportunity to be all we have the potential to be. Then to hear the word “potential” becomes ugly because it passed us up and we waved goodbye.
Have you ever watched someone with awesome potential miss it? We all have and we hate it, especially if it is someone we love. Don’t you hate to watch potential pass your kids up? How must God feel when it was He that placed potential within us and we miss His best for us? I’ll bet it bothers Him.
I love what John Maxwell said, “Many people possess a hundred acres of possibilities but keep only one acre under cultivation.” So few people actually reach their potential – why don’t we be the exception and not the rule?
- Are you gaining on your potential?
- How far do you believe God wants you to go?
- Are you getting out of your comfort zone?
- What will it take for you to achieve your full potential?
During the next few days let’s explore the pathway to your potential. It matters to God, so it should matter to us!
Yours to count on,
Pastor

Thank you, pastor
I will be thinking about this today.
THank you for the time that you put into these blogs and daily devotionals.
I remember very early on in my career that my first boss had mentioned to several people about my potential (I found this out later), but I made some really bad choices and followed the wrong crowd. When I found out what my boss had thought of me I was disappointed because I had not been striving for excellence. Sadly I did not really change until my boss had retired, so my boss never had the chance to see that I get it now, I am being stretched all the time and loving it!
In regards to potential, I am most filled with praise and greatfulness for my Lord,Master,Teacher and Saviour Jesus, in His introduction of Mary, Matha’s sister to me. Her love and devotion, at His precious Feet brings forth all things needed to embrace all He has in store for my life. To be connected to such an example is all that is needed. For it produces a hunger for true Life and gives a resolve unparralled, in a lost and dying world, to seek God above all else and seperate from the mind of the world. To be at His Feet, clears one’s vision to see the things of God that the world misses. In this place of intimacy, is found a boldness to speak against friendship with the world and the dangers thereof. We know the stings of dissapproval and accusation but are comforted. Psalms 25. Neither are we above our Master for He was a man of sorrows. It is a sorrowful thing to be aware of missed potential and moreover to walk through a valley and see and hear the lieing whispers of others that try to attach the word “dirty” to His fullfilled potential of heart…your heart. Saying that, if another tries to climb out of the box to Jesus; Pastor, those in the box try to convince you that that is not potential but rather missing God. Calling evil good and good evil. It is skewed vision. He will have none of it but rather gives more grace and strength against the stubble that will burn. It is good for Him to burn up unprofitable things off of His children to make room for what will last…He will last, nothing more.
Another thought on potential is that the box that binds will be smashed. Just as Jesus told His disciples that not one stone shall be left standing. That means potential will be fulfilled for those that believe in His Words of freedom from all that seeks to bind His bride…a church without spot or blemish. We will be broken yes, Psalms 51, but given comfort not destruction. But those that seek destruction of God’s gift of fulfilled potential will be ground into powder, Math.21:42-44 for He also reminds us that a house divided shall not stand. So I have learned at His feet, that the only safe place is in the center of the flame… that flame is Jesus and He is my Strong Tower; that I will know to be broken yet not destroyed and that is a Holy thing. Being careful to examine daily if I have denied myself or if I have denied Christ and rejoice in the one or repent of the other. That is fulfilled potential to me if space and patience permitted I would write out the whole of Romans chapter 8, but. However I see that the Mary’s out there will gleen as they go to spend time with our Jesus and seek out this Word in Spirit and Truth. The others will not and that is something God can help them conquer in their heart if they be willing. It is a worthy prayer for the sight, sound and understanding to be given to those who need, so I pray and wait for their potential as well as my own to come to full fruition in a bride without blemish that is ready to leave her closet and be presented to Our Father. Amen.
